Rebecca Kennedy’s Playlist

Wimoweh – Nanci Griffith
We used to have this song on a tape when I was a child and we would listen to it on car journeys. We would all pick a part to sing along to and every time I hear it it takes me back to memories of sitting in the back seat with my little cousin, howling out the high notes.

Stop – Spice Girls
This song came out when I was 5 years old and it’s the first CD I remember owning. I can still do the dance even now and can’t help singing along if it comes on.

Big My Secret – Michael Nyman
I played this piece at all of my University auditions. Although I still get a wave of nerves whenever I hear it, it reminds me of the all the work I put in and the excitement of finding out I was accepted into Uni.

Sailor Song – Regina Spektor
This is one of the first songs that me and my friend learnt to play on the guitar when we were around 15. Her family would have big music parties and we would sing this at every one. Even though the chords are very simple, we would mess it up every time and when we still can’t get through it without laughing too much to play.

Ginza – J Balvin
This song reminds me of travelling with my friend in South America. We had never really heard the ‘reggaeton’ style before and loved it.There are so many songs in this style that remind me of this time but this is the one that sticks out as it had just been released and was playing everywhere.  We would request it at every club we went to and I think my friends at home are sick fed up of me still playing it at every party.
