Host your own Musical Tea

Celebrate the power of playlists in style!

BBC Music Day is on 26 September and this year it will be highlighting the power of music to help dementia.

Playlist for Life is joining in and we are inviting all our Help Points and supporters (old and new) to get involved by hosting a Musical Tea.

The Musical Tea was invented by the first ever Playlist for Life Help Point in St Andrews Church, Carluke. It is a way to bring people together to enjoy musical memories, chat over cake and introduce people to the power of playlists.

"We host a 'Musical Tea' where people can come with their family members to chat, laugh, dance, listen to music - and sample home-baking from our 'LP-cake stands'. It's been a wonderful addition to our services and everyone always has a lot of fun!"

Rev Helen Jamieson - Playlist for Life Help Point Leader, St Andrews Church, Carluke

Your free Musical Tea hosting-pack includes:

  • Ideas for musical games and activities to make your Tea go with a swing.
  • Instructions on how to build your own LP-cake stand – as invented by Jennifer Johnston at the first Help Point in Carluke.

You will receive your Musical Tea pack through the post containing all the materials you need to host your Tea, but below are some additional fun materials that you can print out at home to help you run you Tea or advertise it in your local area. You can also print out answer sheets for your BBC Musical Memories Quiz.

We hope your Musical Tea is a fun event for you, your friends, and your local community and we would love to hear how it goes. Please share your Musical Tea photos, videos or stories in our Facebook group or use the #MusicalTea hashtag on Twitter and Instagram!
