Red flag songs

Music is powerful. It can take you to another time or place. That is a great gift.

But you do not want to take someone back to a bad place.

If someone becomes very agitated or distressed listening to a certain tune, you should stop the session immediately and discard that music.

Keep a note of red flag songs so that they are not played again.

But remember that tears on their own are not always bad. They are a sign of deep emotion and sometimes that is an emotion a person would rather have than not.

Focus on the person. Are they distressed?

If they are not distressed, be with them in that moment. Hold their hand or put an arm round them if it feels appropriate.

Spend time with them until the moment has passed.

In this way the playlist can become an opportunity for closeness and deeper caring.
