Melanie Berard’s Playlist

La Java Bleue – Frehel
I grew up in the French Alps. I spent a lot of time in my grandma’s kitchen, dancing with her around the table, to this song.

I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor
My mum used to play this song in the car. We would sing it with so much passion! In 1998 it became the song for France’s World cup victory. A different kind of passion altogether! It always reminds me of my mum and how strong she is.

Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You – Lauryn Hill
I fell in love with Lauryn Hill and the Fugees when I was about 12 years old. She is forever my favourite voice on this planet. I used to listen to this one on my Discman when I first fell in love as a young teenager.

Fille du Vent – Keny Arkana
This song takes me back to when I was studying in Buenos Aires, volunteering for a festival on migration and freedom of movement. I feel like it really symbolises my 20s, like anything is possible.

Holy – Jamila Woods
This song is one of a few that really helped me move through some difficult times.
