Virginia Plain – Roxy Music
This song hooked me from the first bar, and seeing them on Top of the Pops as a young teenager made me realise you could look and be different and that would be fine. This was a band I wanted to follow. I saw them perform it live twice and it was just as electric as the first time I heard it.
YMCA – Village People
This always reminds of my lovely son, who was quite a shy teenager and found public demonstrativeness very embarrassing. He had reservations about going to watch our first ice hockey match together because he said they would make you get up and sing and dance – I assured him this wouldn’t be the case. We had literally just got to our seats when the DJ put YMCA on full blast and everyone leapt from their seats and started singing and doing all the actions! We couldn’t stop laughing – and yeah, definitely joined in and had great fun. Just a great moment in time with an extra special person.
Shang-a-lang – Bay City Rollers
Tartan fever, queueing overnight at Newcastle City Hall, screaming along at the concert with my friends, being young and loving it. What’s not to like?
The Knights Dance from Romeo and Juliet – Prokofiev
This was my first ever ballet and the drama and excitement as the music started and the “Knights” leapt in from the sides of the stage wearing their striking red and black costumes is something I will never forget.
Defying Gravity – Wicked The Musical
I watched this with my daughter at the West End during a weekend in London – loved the show, loved the song, but more than anything, loved the perfect moment of sharing it with my gorgeous daughter.
