Ace of Hz – Ladytron
This song was one of the standouts on the FIFA 11 soundtrack for me, and its distinctive sound jumped out at me from the moment I first heard it. I recently re-added it to my playlist, and it reminds me of playing FIFA with my dad when I was younger.
Brimful of Asha (Norman Cook Remix) – Cornershop, Norman Cook
My Dad and I are big Partick Thistle supporters, and this song used to play as part of the pre-match playlist. Listening to it reminds me of the anticipation you experience before a football game as a fan.
My Sweet Lord – George Harrison
I’m a big fan of Top Gear/The Grand Tour (with Hammond, Clarkson, and May of course!), and it was a staple programme for me to watch whenever I was off ill from school, on a long journey, or just bored. This song plays at the very end of the last episode the three presenters filmed together, and acts as a great closer for a legendary run in TV.
Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann – Nena
Another of my favourite TV shows is the fictional Dark, a very cerebral (and sometimes confusing) German series about time travel. It’s one of those shows I keep finding myself going back to, in part because the plot is so great, but also because of how well they use music. The English translation is ‘Somehow, Somewhere, Sometime’, and I find that the song perfectly encapsulates the themes of Dark, and I am reminded of the show every time I listen to the track.
Some Girls are Bigger than Others – The Smiths
Just a great tune I can never seem to get sick of listening to. Morrissey dampens it slightly with his nonsensical lyrics, but Johnny Marr’s superb guitar work shines through.
