Five highlights from our Help Point network during National Playlist Day

Our Community Help Point Network plays a huge role in delivering the power of meaningful music to people living with dementia.

Formed of a diverse range of community partners, from libraries and memory cafes, to GP surgeries and faith centres, each Help Point works throughout the year to ensure the people they support have access to our support and resources.

And last month, the network was brilliant in bringing our awareness campaign, National Playlist Day, to life. From displaying awareness raising posters, spreading the word on social media and running musical-themed activities – we were blown away by the support shown.

We’d like to thank each and every Help Point who took part in the campaign and contributed to its success. There was certainly lots happening, so here are just five highlights to give you an insight into the amazing work of this vital network.

1) Weekday Wow Factor’s Daytime Disco

Weekday Wow Factor in Glasgow holds a weekly daytime disco throughout the year, but for National Playlist Day, there was a special guest DJ in the form of Ken McCluskey from The Bluebells. The singer of Young at Heart took a turn on the decks to play songs from his personal playlist and had a dance with the group too!

Watch the video here to see how music sparked joy with those in attendance.

2. Dementia Heroes hosted a range of events

Arvind, who leads Dementia Heroes, a charity that run memories cafes across Glasgow, kept people living with dementia supported through a range of activities that coincided with National Playlist Day. The charity supported people to attend a dementia-friendly concert, shared our poster and resources and hosted events filled with reminiscing over favourite songs and memories!

3. South Ribble Dementia Action Alliance ran a pop-up Help Point

In Leyland, Lancashire,  a pop-up Help Point was run by our supporter Keith McIntosh from South Ribble Dementia Action Alliance and Radio Leyland. Keith has been championing our work across Lancashire for many years and this is another example of the fantastic work he is doing to spread the word.

4. Lochside Connections shared a video showing the power of music

Lochside Connections is a Meeting Centre supporting people living with dementia. We were thrilled to see the group harness the power of music and create this incredible awareness-raising post for Facebook which really showcased the joy musical conversations can bring.

5. Inspiring Comunities took part in our tape cassette activity

It was fantastic to see Inspiring Communities use our tape cassette resource to get people talking about the songs that are importance to them. Fancy having a go yourself? Download the tape cassette resource here.

Next year’s National Playlist Day will be on Friday 17th September, be sure to save-the-date!
