Festive Musical Tea brings local community together

Looking for an exciting way to fundraise for us and help share the power of personal music for dementia? Why not take inspiration from Fiona, who hosted a Musical Tea in December for over 100 people!

"It's been the best Christmas present ever."

After attending our free Introduction for Care Professionals webinar, Fiona (Kindness call coordinator for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland) felt encouraged to arrange a Musical Tea fundraiser, raising money for Playlist for Life and The Night Before Christmas Campaign at Annbank Village Hall in Ayrshire. Fiona is a volunteer and previously organised and hosted a musical tea fundraiser for Playlist for life with Ayrshire hospice staff, patients and their families back in 2019.

Armed with our 100 Years of Song book, Fiona took song requests in advance of the event and featured some of the selections in a live performance with a group of five singers. The event included a raffle and the sale of some upcycled items to raise a total of £759 for each charity!

Special guests on the day were residents from Temple House Care Home in Ayrshire, some of whom live with dementia. Fiona shares some of her highlights:

“It was a joy to do it. It was great to bring together so many people to celebrate the power of personal music. Some of the attendees commented on how the intergenerational connections were so lovely, seeing families coming together to share in musical memories. It’s totally sparked ideas of what we can do next. I’m looking forward to adding Musical Teas to our calendar of events next year.”

"While I was performing, I noticed a lady out the corner of my eye in the audience who was using the table as a piano, tapping her fingers along to the music.”
