The Scottish weather was on-par for the third Friday in May as a golf fundraiser made £32,000 to support people living with dementia through personally meaningful music.
Organised by Playlist for Life trustee Dr Frank Dunn and his wife Helen Dunn for the seventh time, the event was a great success and raised vital funds to support families affected by dementia.
Almost 100 supporters from companies including Precision Windows, Arnold Clark and Hacking and Paterson gathered at the 18-hole course at Lenzie Golf Club.
Coffee and breakfast rolls preceded tee-off as teams swung in the sunshine before enjoying a clubhouse dinner and getting their bids in for a selection of first-class auction and raffle prizes.
Prizes were generously gifted by the event’s sponsors and included executive seats at Manchester United, courtesy of Sir Alex Ferguson, and VIP tickets to Deacon Blue at the OVO Hydro with an overnight stay at VOCO Grand Central Hotel.

Frank Dunn and Helen Dunn said:
“We were thrilled to organise this golf day and raise funds that will help Playlist for Life improve the lives of people living with dementia. It also served as an opportunity to inform the people attending about the power of music for dementia so they know how to access it should they ever need it.”
Michael Timmons, Executive Director of Playlist for Life, said:
“The impact of this golf day for people living with dementia is huge as this £32,000 will enable us to keep our support free and help people as early in their dementia journey as possible. We are very grateful to Frank and Helen for volunteering their time to create such a fun day for everyone. Thanks to all the teams for taking part and for their incredible generosity. Events like this not only help us bring in vital donations to support our work but also help us raise awareness of the benefits meaningful music can have in helping people living with dementia to live well.”

Why we fundraise and the impact
The funds raised at the event from the incredible generosity of those in attendance are absolutely vital for delivering our work.
Last year we raised £33,000 which was used to:
- Help keep our resources and support free to families affected by dementia across the UK
- Build on our awareness raising work which led to us broadcasting our message to over 5 million people on BBC breakfast
- Continue to roll out training to health and care professionals and NHS staff which led to an up to 80% reduction in medication for some people with dementia in living at home in Fife
- Improve the lives of countless families
The impact of this work was recognised at SCVO’s Scottish Charity Awards where we were crowned Scottish Charity of the Year 2024.
The £32,000 raised this year will go towards our work in embedding the use of personalised playlists into dementia support in communities, keeping our support free for families and people who need it and working with brain health experts to expand our reach and be able to support people living with dementia as early as possible.
