Online courses

Dementia is the word used to describe many different diseases and their effects on brain health. It is a life-limiting condition that gets worse over time. Most people know that it affects memory, but this is just part of the story. There are several online courses that offer a better understanding of dementia.

Understanding dementia and brain health

The Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre run Understanding Dementia, a free online course, which is completed by all staff at Playlist for Life as part of their induction.

Brain Health Scotland and the University of Edinburgh collaborate and run the Understanding Brain Health: Preventing Dementia course. This course offers an up-to-date exploration of dementia prevention, from early disease detection to positive brain health promotion.

In addition, the University College of London and Created Out of Mind, run Dementia and the Arts: Sharing Practice, Developing Understanding and Enhancing Lives. This free online course explores how the arts can improve the lives of people with dementia.

I found this course very helpful and answered a lot of questions I had surrounding dementia. I found it very touching and amazing that music is now used in this way for individuals living with dementia
