Welcome to the September edition of our blog.
It’s World Alzheimer’s Month and we have a lot to celebrate, including our annual National Playlist Day campaign.
Read on to hear about our events, news including of our new ambassador Sir Alex Ferguson, and resources to help more people affected by dementia to create and use personal playlists.
Introducing our ambassador Sir Alex Ferguson
In case you missed our social media and press reports, we are thrilled to announce that Sir Alex Ferguson is an official ambassador for Playlist for Life following years of silent but generous support of our work.
To launch his new role, the football legend visited our office in Glasgow to meet the team and learn more about our efforts in supporting people living with dementia through personally meaningful music.
Sir Alex will champion our work and help us reach more families affected by dementia through awareness-raising, fundraising and influencing. We will work together to try to ensure that everyone living with dementia has access to a unique, personalised playlist and that everyone who loves or cares from them knows how to use it.

Ready, set, playlist
Our annual awareness-raising campaign kicks off this month and we celebrate National Playlist Day on Friday 19th September. We have lots happening to amplify our message about the power of playlists to improve the lives of people affected by dementia including:
- Parliamentary events at Westminster in London and Holyrood in Edinburgh to engage more of the UK’s top decision makers in embedding music into health and social care policies
- Partnerships with our Help Points to run special events and help community members to create individual playlists and the soundtracks of their area or group
- Lots of social media activity to help more people discover the power of personal playlists to improve wellbeing and dementia care

Personal playlists in action
Jada cares for her father-in-law who lives with dementia. She created a personal playlist for him to use during car journeys to help him feel calm while travelling. She kindly shared how using playists benefits both of them.
One of the biggest challenges I faced recently was car journeys. My father-in-law would constantly comment on my driving and it became incredibly stressful. I even tried putting him in the back seat instead of the passenger seat but it didn’t help.
Then I remembered hearing that another carer had used Playlist for Life to create a sense of calm. I decided to try it in the car, and it was a game-changer.
Since introducing the playlist, car journeys are no longer stressful. My father-in-law is back in the passenger seat and if the music isn’t quite working, we just sing a little medley of our four favourite songs, often with him leading the way.
