Share your music festival memories

My festival memory

We’re curating the UK’s music festival memories playlist, and we need your help!

At Playlist for Life, we specialise in harnessing the power of music to connect people. If you’ve ever been to a music festival then you’ll know about the special kind of connection that comes from being surrounded by thousands of strangers, all singing along to the same song, brought together in a muddy field through a shared loved of music. Some of our greatest musical memories are associated with experiences, and there’s nothing quite like the experience of a music festival  whether you’re watching from the front row at the main stage or on the TV from the comfort of your couch.

Playlist for Life helps connect people with dementia to their family members and carers through the power of personalised music. Did you know that music is neurologically special in the way that it stimulates multiple parts of the brain at once? This means that even if some parts of the brain are damaged, music can still reach other parts. That’s why music is so powerful for those living with dementia.

Festival season has been put on hold this year, including Glastonbury’s 50th anniversary which would have been this weekend. But the cancellation of public gatherings doesn’t mean we can’t bring the festival fun to our own homes. We’re asking you to share your music festival memory to raise awareness of the power of personally-meaningful music for those living with dementia. We want to hear about your festival highlights, the best act you’ve ever seen live and the music memories that will last a lifetime. Never been to a festival? Why not share the live performance you wish you had seen, or your dream festival headliner? We might not be able to travel in lockdown, but that doesn’t mean you can’t let your imagination run wild. Fancy being transported back to Woodstock in ’69 or Live Aid in ’85? Why not?!

Share your memory and a song that reminds you of it on social media with #MyFestivalMemory and we’ll add your track to our Music Festival Memories playlist – the perfect soundtrack for an at-home music festival.

We’re encouraging everyone to connect through music and create a personal playlist for a loved one. To get started with a playlist, check out our top tips and conversation starters.
