A number of annual charity golf days have raised more than £200,000 to help improve the lives of people living with dementia through the use of personal playlists in dementia care and support.
Since 2017, Playlist for Life Trustee Dr. Frank Dunn and his wife Helen Dunn have organised an annual golf day in support of people, families and carers living with dementia.
The eighth and most recent event, which was held on Friday 15th May at Lenzie Golf Club raised a total of £33,000 thanks to the generosity of over 100 supporters from companies including Tracey Investments, Precision Windows, M.P.K Optical, Arnold Clark and Ecobacker Ltd. This year, The Westerton Male Voice Choir sent the golfers off in style with a special live performance that included a rendition of ‘Young at Heart’ with Bobby Bluebell from The Bluebells.
Following the round, golfers took part in a raffle and auction. Prizes were kindly gifted by the event’s sponsors and included the opportunity to be a boardroom guest of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, VIP tickets to Kevin Bridges at the OVO Hydro and golf for four at the prestigious Royal Troon Golf Course.
Frank Dunn and Helen Dunn said:
“We absolutely thrilled to have broken £200,000 raised in total over the eight golf events. This year’s event was fantastic and we raised £33,000. The funds that will help Playlist for Life improve the lives of people living with dementia.
We had some familiar faces joining us as well as some new ones. I want to thank all of those involved for their incredible generosity and it is heartening to see how much they want to make a difference to the charity. The event also serves as an opportunity for those attending to learn more about the power of music for dementia so they know how to access it should they ever need it.”
Sandra Stark, Chair of Playlist for Life, said:
“Attending the golf event is always one of the highlights of the year. To be there in person and witness the warmth, generosity and support for our charity is truly special. As fundraising becomes increasingly challenging, the importance of the funds raised for us cannot be overstated.
Last year’s funds helped us reach more people across the UK, train vital community and health professionals, and bring Playlist for Life to the Scottish Parliament, moving us closer to making it part of standard, evidence based dementia care.
The incredible amount raised this year will help us continue this vital journey, reaching more people living with dementia and their families sooner and supporting them at the moments they need it most.
We are incredibly grateful to Frank and Helen for the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication they bring to making the day such a success and our thanks also go to all those who support us behind the scenes and who help to make the event so enjoyable and impactful.”

Why we fundraise and the impact of our work
The funds raised at the event from are absolutely vital for delivering our work.
Last year we the funds raised contributed towards:
- Helping keep our resources and support free to people affected by dementia across the UK
- Taking Playlist for Life to The Scottish Parliament and Westminister to gain the support of UK and Scottish Governments in embedding music into dementia care and support. This led to Playlist for Life being a key part of a Scottish Government dementia public health campaign, Rethink Dementia
- Getting our message out to well over 5 million people through media appearances on the BBC to raise awareness
- Being recognised at The ScottishPower Foundation Award, winning the Community Engagement award
- Improving the lives of countless families and carers across the UK
The funds raised this year will go towards our work in embedding the use of personalised playlists into dementia support in communities and keeping our support free for anyone who needs it. We will also work with brain health experts to expand our reach and be able to support people living with dementia as early as possible.
If you would like to organise an event in support of people living with dementia, we’d love to hear from you. Email info@playlistforlife.org.uk and we’ll get back to you.
