Playlist for Life has always been extremely fortunate to receive generous support from many donors sponsors and trusts and foundations from across the UK, enabling us to support more people with dementia, their families and carers to benefit from personalised playlists. Current funders include The ScottishPower Foundation, Rayne Foundation, The RS Macdonald Charitable Trust and many more.
Dementia is one of the biggest public health issues of our time. An estimated 982,000 people live with dementia in the UK and that number is growing rapidly. Currently, there is no cure for dementia. But music can help.
Research shows that listening to personally meaningful music can reduce the symptoms of dementia, support memory and communication, and help people to reconnect to loved ones and to their own pasts. Playlist for Life, founded by Sally Magnusson MBE in 2013 provides support and resources to families affected by deementia. In the midst of what can be a very isolating disease, music can be a lifeline.
This support has been invaluable, this funding helps Playlist for Life:
- Improve the lives of families affected by dementia through using personally meaningful music
- Share free resources and support with people living with dementia and their families right across the UK.
- Provide training and support to community professionals, health and care professionals to use playlists as part of care.
- Raise awareness through our campaigns such as National Playlist Day to encourage everyone to create the soundtrack of their life.
“We are delighted to be able to support the amazing work Playlist for Life are doing, particularly as my mum, Pat Murgitroyd, had Alzheimer’s Disease and really benefitted all the way through her illness from the playing of music.”
Liz Thomson, Chair and Co-Founder, The Murgitroyd Foundation
