Valentine’s at Glasgow Central Station
Music, memories and love were in the air this Valentine's Day as we serenaded the commuters of Glasgow.
At Playlist for Life we’re all about spreading joy through meaningful music and raising awareness of the power of meaningful music for people living with dementia.
We’re a registered charity, so fundraising is important to ensure we can continue to offer free support to any family affected by dementia.
On Valentine’s Day we set up an information stand and piano at Glasgow Central Station to raise awareness and collect vital funds. And what a day we had!
Musicians Gus Harrower and Elizabeth Brewer played famous love songs and took requests from commuters in return for a charity donation.
From The Beatles to Ronan Keating, Nat King Cole and Taylor Swift, we covered a wide range of songs that captured love in all its forms.
A young woman requested an Elvis track in memory of her grandmother, who lived with dementia.
Terry requested Nat King Cole for his wife, Maria, and they enjoyed the music together before boarding the train for their holidays.
Commuters visited our information stand to learn more about how meaningful music could help their loved one. We also had a ‘mixtape’ resource that could be personalised and given to someone as a Valentine’s gift.
The event was a great success and caught the eye of the press including The Herald, Glasgow Live and Glasgow Times.
The commuters of Glasgow were very generous and helped us raise £350 to support families affected by dementia. We partner with over 2,500 community Help Points, providing free support and resources to anyone who could benefit and so support like this from the public ensures we can continue to deliver this important work.
