Networker Training

Here you will find tips and ideas of activities you can undertake as a Networker to raise awareness about Playlist for Life and help bring the power of playlists to your local community.

You can choose how much you would like to do and who you would like to approach, so have a think about what activity or activities you would like to focus on.

We hope to set up 1,500 Help Points across the UK by the end of 2020. You can learn all about this programme by completing the Help Point eLearning course. It would be amazing if you could help us set up a Help Point (or two!) in your community.

We encourage you to be creative. No-one knows your local area like you do! If you have any ideas you would like to run by us, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

And just another reminder that you can cherry-pick what activities you would like to do as a Networker. It is important that you feel comfortable volunteering with us, so choose tasks that you feel you will enjoy and if you have any questions, feel free to get in touch with Pam or Rosie at the office on 0141 404 0683.

Getting started as a Networker:

  • Complete the Help Point e-learning
  • Get to know our website and find out about all the advice and information we offer on
    • music and dementia
    • making playlists
    • real-life stories
    • where our Help Points and trained care establishments are
    • the different types of training we offer
    • our 100 Years book and Spotify page containing specialist playlists
    • the BBC Music Memories website
    • our free downloadable materials….and all the ways people can get involved!
  • If you use social media, you can connect with us and share and like our posts (see links below)
  • Find out who your dementia-friendly local organisations are. Research the ones you think could make good Help Points and get in touch with them to let them know the benefits of signing up.
  • Attend one of our free Help Point training sessions. We run these across the UK, wherever there is enough demand.
  • Once you’ve started getting out and about and speaking to people about Playlist for Life, we ask that you keep us posted by filling out our online volunteer activity form.
  • Top Tip: Why not practice talking about Playlist for Life with friends or family members?

Growing your Network…

  • Encourage organisations you have approached to officially sign up as Help Points and help them fill in the online application form.
  • Help to advertise existing Help Points and make a plan to promote the Help Points you are helping to set up. Let local care homes know they have a Help Point(s) nearby by speaking to staff and offering them posters and flyers with the Help Point details on.
  • Ask local services and businesses that may be interested in raising awareness for Playlist for Life if they could display an A4 poster advertising a local Help Point (or a Playlist for Life poster if no Help Point nearby) and stock leaflets. Potential places include GP surgeries, pharmacies, hospital wards, opticians, dentists, hairdressers, cafes, record shops etc. Organisations that are unable to become Help Point might also be happy to raise awareness in this way.
  • Run an information stand at local events to raise awareness about Playlist for Life and promote local activity.  Keep an eye out for upcoming local dementia-friendly events where an information stand might work. We can provide you with materials such as flyers, posters etc.
  • Consider becoming a volunteer at one of your local Help Points. You will most likely be asked to undergo PVG/DBS checks, so ask them about their volunteer sign-up process.
  • Consider giving informal talks at dementia cafes and similar groups.
  • If you have your own laptop and PowerPoint/Keynote software, consider becoming a Speaker and delivering our awareness-raising talk to local community groups such as Guilds, Rotaries, and the WI (if you are not already doing so!). You can find Speaker training and info here.
  • Consider organising a local Playlist for Life volunteer get-together and encourage them to bring their friends along (you may inspire them to volunteer with us too!)

Remember, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
